Chad’s mom asked that I post this photo of her and Chad from his sister’s Sara’s wedding. It is a beautiful photo.
It’s been a year, Chad. We miss you terribly.

Chad, it’s been six months today. Seems like only yesterday you left us, but at the same time these last six months have been long and difficult. Your ashes are still next to my fireplace. We shall spread them soon when the time is right, and you shall have your final peace.

Hello,
We’ve determined plans for Chad’s memorial services. As of this point, these locations and dates are tentative, but they do appear fairly certain. Unless you hear on the contrary, consider these plans official.
First of all, Chad was such a large personality that just one memorial service is lacking. So there shall be two.
I will be either creating eVite or Google Calendar events for these services so we can get a clearer indication of what the

I wish I had good news, but unfortunately I’m afraid to say the news is not good.
Chad’s time with us may be short. He is being discharged from Good Samaritan Hospital here in Portland and will return home tomorrow. His wife Alina will be Chad’s full-time hospice worker, and she’ll have backup from on-call hospice support staff that will also be making periodic visits to monitor Chad’s status.
We had hoped to get Chad healthy enough

Chad and his partner Alina were married today at Good Samaritan Hospital here in Portland, OR. The ceremony was held on the third floor, in the chapel.
The ceremony was performed by the hospital chaplain, Kate, and it was small, sweet affair attended by family and a few nurses. Alina’s mother came up from Denver (her brother Braden has been here in Portland the last month), and Chad’s folks and sister were up from Tucson.

Hello all,
Chad is presently in the hospital and will be here for the time being. The third regimen of chemotherapy, after an initial stem cell biopsy, showed some sign of progress, and Chad is due to have another bone marrow biopsy this Thursday. We’re crossing our fingers that he continues to show some additional signs of progress, but if there’s something this process has taught us, it’s that we need to be cautiously optimistic.

Hello everyone,
Good news, and unfortunately some bad news.
A screener came out from the Multnomah Co.’s Seniors and Disability program last Friday. Good news is that Chad has now qualified for assistance from the county and, thus, the Oregon Health Plan Plus/Medicaid.
Right now it’s a matter of trying to get OHSU (Oregon Health and Sciences University) accept and treat Chad and give him the bone marrow transplant he needs.
The bad news is Chad is not doing

In June of last year my partner, Chad Schild, was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), a fatal cancer of the white blood cells. Like 47 million other Americans, he did not have health insurance. Fortunately he was treated with intensive chemotherapy in the hospital over the next few months. At the time of his emergency admittance, Chad’s life was severely threatened, but his strength and unwavering desire to live helped him surpass all odds

Chad Update 8/27/2008
Posted by Braden
After an eight-month remission, we’re sad to report that Chad is back in the hospital. Last Tuesday, August 19th, Chad went back to the Good Samaritan Hospital after not feeling well for a number of days. He was given a bone marrow test on Wednesday morning and by Wednesday night the results confirmed that there were leukemic cells in his bone marrow, meaning he’d relapsed.
Chad began a five day intensive chemotherapy regimen that ends

Chad is currently back at Good Samaritan Hospital in Northwest Portland, for four days of in-patient chemotherapy.
This is Stage 5 of what his doctor has described as an eight stage process of intensive chemotherapy.
Remarkably, Chad is responding very well to treatment. While it is way to early to say anything definitive, the in-patient chemotherapy treatment — in addition to all his out-patient booster shots and spinal taps — has done a wondrous job of fighting

A quick update: Chad’s treatment is ongoing as he continues his fight against cancer.
He’s been back to the cancer ward @Good Samaritan twice in the last month for in-patient treatment (two stints of 4 and 3 days, respectively). He continues to receive near-daily out-patient treatment, as well, including regular spinal types that allows his chemotherapy to target his central nervous system (he originally had surgery in his head to install a port for this

He has pulled out from the severe bout with the disease that put him in critical care for two nights last week. As many of you already know, Chad — like nearly 50 million other Americans — does not have health insurance. While the Oregon Health Plan and Medicare may be able to provide some assistance, Chad is accumulating considerable debt while he fights his disease. On top of that, he has been unable to work and earn any income that would normally used to pay his monthly bills (rent, utilities, car payment, student loan debt, etc.).

Good news. Chad’s vital signs have stabilized. The CAT scan showed he had no new bleeding in his brain. His blood pressure has lowered, he’s no longer passing large amounts of blood through his urine. The doctors have said the delirium he was exhibiting was not a result of his hemorrhaging, but rather an adverse reaction to the cancer attacking his liver. The doctor two days ago had pretty much ruled out further chemo, but

Chad took a turn for the worse yesterday…his blood pressure shot through the roof, his fever kicked up, and — most concerning — started hemmoraging in/near his brain. The combination of chemo, cancer, and his body’s reaction to everything has reached a boiling point.
They moved him to critical care last night to constantly monitor him. They were concerned that he was dangerously close to having a stroke, which would understandably be devastating at this point.
He’s
