Chad Update 10/17/07

Chad is currently back at Good Samaritan Hospital in Northwest Portland, for four days of in-patient chemotherapy.

This is Stage 5 of what his doctor has described as an eight stage process of intensive chemotherapy.

Remarkably, Chad is responding very well to treatment. While it is way to early to say anything definitive, the in-patient chemotherapy treatment — in addition to all his out-patient booster shots and spinal taps — has done a wondrous job of fighting his leukemia.

Let’s just hope he continues to the path to recovery. It looks like possibly Chad complete his intensive first stage of chemotherapy sometime early next year, at which point his status will be reassessed in terms of modulating his treatment plan from that point forward.

Today is October 29th of 2007. I cannot imagine it was only four months ago that this episode of Chad’s life began. What a life changing event! He was diagnosed on June 25th, his sister, Sara, and I traveled to Portland on the 28th to be with him. Chad’s dad, Mike, followed us on July 11th. We cannot express our gratitude to all of you that have expressed concern and cared for Chad in this trying time. No one expects a diagnosis of cancer, let alone one that only strikes 4000 documented cases in the USA (2006 stats)! But, Chad has been a fighter and a superhero through this entire ordeal! I am so impressed by the Supportland benefit and wish I could be there with you all. Chad’s sister will be there and of course, we will be there in mind! We are coming up for Thanksgiving and we are looking forward to spending time in Oregon and being with Chad. Again, let me say thank you to all of you that have supported Chad, who is a very special person, I must say, even if I am his Mom! Linda

Chad was admitted to the ER @ Good Samaritan Hospital in Northwest Portland on Monday, June 25th, and on the following Tuesday evening received a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He started intensive chemotherapy the following week to try to force his aggressive form of cancer into remission.
