Chad Update 9/9/08
Hello everyone,
Good news, and unfortunately some bad news.
A screener came out from the Multnomah Co.’s Seniors and Disability program last Friday. Good news is that Chad has now qualified for assistance from the county and, thus, the Oregon Health Plan Plus/Medicaid.
Right now it’s a matter of trying to get OHSU (Oregon Health and Sciences University) accept and treat Chad and give him the bone marrow transplant he needs.
The bad news is Chad is not doing well. He is not responding to his chemotherapy. They are starting him on anther regimen. Until he can get better, the bone marrow operation isn’t even an option - he has to improve in order to sustain that procedure.
Until his situation improves, we’re still in a holding pattern in terms of figuring out the next steps, including appeal for funding to supplement the Medicaid assistance that OHSU (or another
hospital/center) will HOPEFULLY accept as a pre-clearance for the bone marrow transplant.
So, please continue to keep Chad in your thoughts and prayers. His leukemia is particularly virulent and has mutated; hence the difficulty in treating the latest reoccurrence. He will start a new chemotherapy regimen, one that will most likely keep him in the hospital for another month, but it is necessary to get Chad into remission in order to embark on the next step towards recovery.
Thank you all for your words and actions of support. Please continue to check his Facebook Group and this website (http://chadschild.com) for updates.
