Chad is currently back at Good Samaritan Hospital in Northwest Portland, for four days of in-patient chemotherapy.

This is Stage 5 of what his doctor has described as an eight stage process of intensive chemotherapy.

Remarkably, Chad is responding very well to treatment. While it is way to early to say anything definitive, the in-patient chemotherapy treatment — in addition to all his out-patient booster shots and spinal taps — has done a wondrous job of fighting his leukemia.

Let’s just hope he continues to the path to recovery. It looks like possibly Chad complete his intensive first stage of chemotherapy sometime early next year, at which point his status will be reassessed in terms of modulating his treatment plan from that point forward.

A quick update: Chad’s treatment is ongoing as he continues his fight against cancer.

He’s been back to the cancer ward @Good Samaritan twice in the last month for in-patient treatment (two stints of 4 and 3 days, respectively). He continues to receive near-daily out-patient treatment, as well, including regular spinal types that allows his chemotherapy to target his central nervous system (he originally had surgery in his head to install a port for this reason; however, the cranial port/application of chemo proved to be way too problematic).

Let’s continue to wish that Chad improves. He is eating and regaining weight. His mental outlook continues to improve.

He, however, needs financial support. His rent will be due at the end of the month.

Please use the Paypal link below to kick a few dollars his way to help with rent, utilities, etc. He recently used some funds to buy a kangol to cover his head, so ANY donation is appreciated, even $15 or $20 — it all adds up.

Thanks to all who have helped and for all the positive thoughts and well wishes. We are extremely grateful.

Chad is back at home after returning to Good Samaritan for four days of in-patient chemotherapy last week. He was down to 130 pounds! But he’s doing much better. He has his appetite back and is eating, growing stronger and re-gaining weight.

He is currently receiving daily out-patient treatment at the Cancer Research Center that’s adjacent to Good Samaritan.

First of all, thank you to everyone for your thoughts and support. We were able to gather over $400 in donations through this website thus far, which was incredibly helpful in helping Chad pay rent for September. He still needs much more help, so anything you can donate to help out, even if it is $15 or $20, will go a long way towards keeping his lights on and his cellphone plan activated.

Second of all, pencil November 11th on your calendars. A consortium of Chad’s friends have begun to do some serious work around organizing a benefit concert at Audio Cinema here in Portland on that date. There will be updates on this exciting development as news rolls in.

Tomorrow (Wed, Aug 1), Chad will be released from the hospital and will be going home! He continues to get stronger and improve.

He will return in a few weeks for an in-hospital stay of a few days to receive another chemotherapy treatment.

If you would like to call Chad, the best way is on his cell phone @503-381-7861. For those in Portland, he’ll be back in his apartment, and I’m sure he would appreciate a visit.

Thank you to everyone who has kept him in your thoughts, and to all the visitors and well wishers who have stopped by Good Samaritan over the last month to boost his spirits.

Chad’s good friends Peter, Tony, and Alissa have been meeting at Echo the past couple of weeks and brainstorming ways to help Chad as he transitions from the hospital…look for another update on the website regarding these developments soon.

A quick update on Chad. He’s feeling much better, and he physically continues to get stronger.

He has pulled out from the severe bout with the disease that put him in critical care for two nights last week. He is back in his room (#693 in the autologous cancer wing of Good Samaritan Hospital in NW Portland). His white blood cell counts are now much healthier (they were non-existent), which means his body can naturally fight instead of relying on antibiotics alone. Visitors to his room are no longer required to wear masks, as the risk of airborne disease being brought in from the outside are now minimal.

We can only hope he continues to improve and get stronger. He is starting to eat small amount of food, the doctors are considering resuming some level of chemotherapy treatment.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

As many of you already know, Chad — like nearly 50 million other Americans — does not have health insurance. While the Oregon Health Plan and Medicare may be able to provide some assistance, Chad is accumulating considerable debt while he fights his disease. On top of that, he has been unable to work and earn any income that would normally used to pay his monthly bills (rent, utilities, car payment, student loan debt, etc.). If you would like to contribute to a general fund to assist Chad in these difficult and trying times, we’ve set up a Paypal account that accepts payments at donate@chadschild.com. You can use the Paypal button below to link directly to the Paypal website.

Good news. Chad’s vital signs have stabilized. The CAT scan showed he had no new bleeding in his brain. His blood pressure has lowered, he’s no longer passing large amounts of blood through his urine. The doctors have said the delirium he was exhibiting was not a result of his hemorrhaging, but rather an adverse reaction to the cancer attacking his liver. The doctor two days ago had pretty much ruled out further chemo, but I’m told will consider revisiting of chemo treatment.

Late this afternoon, Chad moved out of the critical care unit back to his room in the cancer care center, which is an extremely positive sign that he continues to improve.
